Rye was raised in Santa Rosa, California where he spent summers working for his father as a carpenter building custom residential homes. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California‐Santa Barbara. After graduating, Rye stayed in Santa Barbara to work as an engineer, designing heavy lifting systems for the offshore oil and shipping industry. During this time he became interested in structural design. Following a year break in which he traveled overland from California to the tip of South America, Rye returned to San Francisco where he worked for an engineering firm designing structures for petroleum processing plants.

Disenchanted with “big industry”, Rye went back to carpentry which he had always loved, taking a job with a prominent construction company in Marin County. Years later, while working as a project manager, Rye was offered employment as a structural designer by a structural engineering firm in San Anselmo. They believed Rye would make a great addition to their team, given Rye’s extensive experience in residential and commercial construction.

Rye became a licensed Civil Engineer (C‐77960) in 2011 and began consulting independently soon thereafter. He co‐founded Jorgensen Engineering with his wife Alyssa, in March 2012.

Alyssa was born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas. She received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Missouri‐Columbia with a Minor in Mathematics. After graduating in 2001, she moved across the country to San Rafael, California. After a decade working in systems operations for the retail industry, she co‐founded Jorgensen Engineering with her husband Rye, in March 2012. Currently, Alyssa handles all day‐to‐day business operations including project scheduling, accounting, marketing, customer service responsibilities and document production.

Alyssa and Rye live with their two children and two kittens on two acres in the rolling hills of Sonoma County.
